missionour mission, since its inception in 1996, the st. james social services corporation has sought to support the family unit by changing the economic circumstance and improving the overall quality of life for children, the elderly, low-income families, and the indigent populations.servicesfood distributionhoursmonday - friday lunch monday - friday12:00pm - 2:00pmthe last saturday of every month and the first saturday of every month 11:30am - 1:00pmdinnermonday, wednesday-friday5:00pm - 6:00pmemergency food pantry hoursmonday - friday 3:00pm - 6:00pmenergy assistance program,this program, which is operated under the auspices of nj shares in conjunction with pse&g, is designed to provide our constituents with assistance in paying their utility bills.clothing distribution programthe clothing distribution takes place on the third saturday of each month in addition to an annual warm winter coat giveaway. approximately 600 coats for children and adults are distributed each year. clothing is also available daily to meet emergency needs. during the third saturday distribution, a hot meal is served to approximately 250 people. this is another program that is run by church volunteers.youth servicesst. james social services corporation provides a wide range of youth services, which includes an intergenerational after school program. the goal of the program is to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for children ages 5-14 after school hours. using a unique combination of senior citizens, adults, college students, and teenagers, the st. james intergenerational after school program places emphasis on academic excellence. the after-school program operates five (5) days per week, monday-friday with extended hours 3 pm-7 pm to accommodate the schedules of working parents. in addition, st. james social service corporation offers a six (6) week (safe haven summer peace camp) for children ages 5-14 during the summer months.holiday distribution programfamily medical servicesst. james a.m.e. church in partnership with the university of medicine and dentistry of new jersey provides medical services to our constituents. in addition to providing medical services typical of a family medicine practice, the health center in collaboration with the church's medical ministry and its hiv/aids ministry is able to do special screening for prostate and colorectal cancer, hiv/aids, diabetes, and hypertension, all of which are prevalent among our constituency.for more information, please call.
